Risk Education

The 10 hours of DUI Risk Education are completed over 4 class periods. It focuses on educating those attending on the impact of alcohol and other drugs, both on themselves and the effect that it has had on others. The curriculum includes information on DUI laws, an overview of the physiological and pharmacological effects of alcohol and other drugs, factors that influence patterns of substance abuse, and the effect of substance use on family and other members of the community. The participant in this course will take a test both a pre-test at the beginning and a post-test at the end of this course and must pass the post-test with a score of at least 75% to successfully complete Risk Education.

Early Intervention/Treatment

Early intervention/treatment is completed over numerous 3 hour sessions. The amount of sessions that one must attend is determined by the risk-level that has been assigned. These sessions do not follow a set curriculum, but focus more on clients as individuals. Through these sessions clients are challenged to look at their own substance use and confront the impact that it has had. Problems that may have lead to misusing alcohol or other drugs are addressed and the client is encouraged to form a plan to avoid substance abuse in the future.

Continuing Care/Aftercare

The duration of continuing care depends on a person’s risk level but will general continue for 6 to 12 months. These sessions last 3 hours and are similar to the treatment sessions. A client in continuing care is required to attend one time per month. The purpose of this is to allow the client to check-in with our agency and address any issues that may be hindering his or her progress.
